On March 29, an operating system vulnerability or BackDoor was discovered in XZ or a file compression program in Linux and Mac OS operating systems. This program is widely used in such operating systems. This vulnerability allows hackers to run any code into the operating system, which is very dangerous. XZ Version 5.6.0 and 5.6.1 are the ones that are backdoored. To check, if it is a Linux operating system, enter cmd and type xz-v to check the version of XZ. If it is the aforementioned version, we recommend that users backdoor back to an older version to prevent being attacked by hackers. From the latest information on April 3, 2024, it is still not clear if there are other capabilities of the backdoor. Some people ask how important it is. I will say that it is world-class because most operating systems in the world are based on Linux. And right now, we still don't know who the hackers are and why they did it.
And we would like to thank Andres Freund, a software engineer at Microsoft, for discovering this backdoor.
